The Day of the Dead in Mexico is a holiday that combines pre-Hispanic traditions with Catholicism, celebrated primarily on November 1 and 2. Its pre-Hispanic origins are based on the view of death as a natural cycle and the belief in the return of the souls of the deceased to the world of the living, which led to the creation of rituals to honor ancestors and the goddess Mictecacihuatl. With the arrival of the Spanish, the celebration was syncretized with the Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, resulting in a unique holiday.
